The Cross River State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has put forward Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu for its 2026 Platinum Meritorious Service Award, the body’s most prestigious honour for exceptional leadership and progress in healthcare.
Endorsed during the Association’s Ordinary General Meeting, the award recognises the governor’s administration for reforms that have strengthened the state’s health sector and improved conditions for medical practitioners.
In a nomination letter signed by NMA State Chairman Dr Ezoke Epoke, the association pointed to key milestones under the administration, including the employment of doctors into the state Civil Service, adoption of the updated Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), extension of the service tenure for health workers, creation of the State Hospital Management Board, and renovation of primary healthcare centres and general hospitals statewide.
According to the NMA, these initiatives have restored morale among health professionals and expanded residents’ access to quality care.
Governor Otu is billed to receive the honour at the NMA Cross River State Branch’s Annual General Meeting, Scientific Conference, and Award Night, scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. at Hogis Royale Banquet Hall, Calabar.
